May 2008

Here comes, what seems to be, Norbury & Finch’s annual report and well wishing.

Judy and Joanna had a fine 2007 spring and summer, of performances, including the kickstART Mini-Festival in Victoria, Farmers’ Markets with the highlight being their performance at the Plaza of Nations in Vancouver at the Taiwanese Cultural Festival where they acted as musical ambassadors for Cumberland.

During the past year Judy has been hard at work in the studio recording her new solo CD, Did You Find the Door with producer, Todd ButlerThis new project has a distinct West Coast country and bluegrass feel to many of the tunes thanks to the excellent players who helped out with their skillful musicianship. It has now been released and is available through CD Baby and direct orders through Judy herself.

Joanna and Judy spent the winter far from home this past fall and winter. Joanna spent eight months in Antigua where she worked in the school system, performed jazz and conducted vocal workshops and Judy traveled for four months in Britain, Pakistan and India and wrote stories about her adventures. Judy has signed a contract to publish her memoir and the manuscript is presently being worked on by an editor. The working title is Come Back to Mirzapur, Judy Baba and it should be out in the fall.

The ladies are happy to be back playing music together once again and have a summer of music planned.

Music is something all folks can rely on to be there when it’s needed to lift spirits, make hearts soar and move bodies and minds. In this challenging world, music is a constant friend and comfort. Norbury & Finch wish all of you peaceful hearts and much joy until the next report.

March 2007

Yes, it's been quite awhile since Norbury & Finch have updated their news page! But here is what's been happening:

Judy and Joanna are still hard at work on all their various projects. Since their last update Joanna has completed and released her successful solo CD project, "In the Arms of Morpheus" to critical aclaim. She has also been studying improvisational voice technique and from these studies and her own unique style has developed two workshops--Idspin for adults and Kidspin for children.

Judy is presently working on her own solo CD project under the direction of producer Todd Butler, who also produced Norbury & Finch's first CD, "Tease For Two". She has spent the past two years writing an autobiographical, travel and mother/daughter memoir. She is presently awaiting word from a publisher.

Norbury & Finch have developed an interactive school show and still find time to do the occasional performance and are presently booking a spring and summer tour.

Judy and Joanna continue to hear good news about the use of some of their songs on various television programs thanks to Pump Audio.

All the best from the two of them to all of you folks out there in cyberland!

March 2005

Well, it’s been quite some time since Norbury & Finch has updated their news page. This has not been for lack of busy-ness. Joanna has been hard at work on her solo CD and Judy has been traveling in Southern climes.

2004 was an eventful and productive year and saw Norbury & Finch flying to Winnipeg, Manitoba at the invitation of the DPI-Disabled Persons International, where they performed for people from 100 different countries. The convention was memorable and inspiring! They also performed at KickstART2, a festival of disability arts and culture in Vancouver, BC. Throughout the year they continued to appear at various music and art events, farmer’s markets and cafes on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

They plan on finishing their second CD, “Circular Motion”, when they figure out how they can finance the project. If any readers out there have any ideas about this please send them along!

Judy and Joanna wish you all the very, very best in health, happiness and prosperity for 2005 and they hope to see you at some of their future performances!

January 2004

Judy and Joanna wish all of their friends and fans the very best in health and happiness for 2004.

They had a busy Spring, Summer and Autumn of gigs, the Island Songwriter’s Showcase and the Vancouver Island MusicFest being two highlights. They also performed at numerous fundraisers and benefits, such as Comox Valley Hospice Society and the Nanaimo Food Bank.

Circular Motion

They spent time working on recording a new CD on Gabriola Island and Salt Spring Island. Sadly the project had to be put on hold, as it was difficult to work on the CD from a distance. They are excited to begin again and will be working with a producer closer to home starting in February. If there are any fans or friendly benefactors out there who would love to invest in the CD recording project called Circular Motion, Judy and Joanna would welcome the help. They can be contacted at info@norburyandfinch.com

April 2003

Joanna and Judy are gearing up for a busy summer. They have just done their first Courtenay Farmer’s Market of the season, a last minute fill in for a no show. They were there and ready to play in 45 minutes from the phone call! How’s that for troopers? Now their fridges are full to bursting with greens and goodies. The market with all its familiar faces is a favourite venue of theirs.

March 2003

Spring is in the air and Judy and Joanna are happy to hear that they are receiving airplay in various parts of the U.S., Canada and Ireland on some folk music radio stations. This Spring they will be making return visits to some favourite folk clubs on Vancouver Island including Nanaimo and Deep Cove in Saanich. Check the schedule page for dates and times.

On Easter Sunday, April 20th, Woody’s Children in New York, radio WFUV will again be playing a selection from the CD, “Tease For Two”, plus 3 cuts from the Cumberland based CD, “Rhythm & Green”. Tune in at www.wfuv.org at 4:00pm, PST, 7:00pm, EST.
